In 2021, overseas shipments of seats convertible into beds increased by 10% to X units, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports recorded noticeable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, bed-convertible seat exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Poland (6.4M units) was the largest exporter of seats convertible into beds, mixing up 66% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Romania (1,216K units) and Portugal (529K units), together committing an 18% share of total exports. Slovakia (273K units), Germany (205K units) and the Czech Republic (146K units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+47.1%), Portugal (+8.7%) and Slovakia (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Czech Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +47.1% from 2012-2021. Romania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (-7.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Poland and Portugal increased by +7.9 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. Germany (-4.4 p.p.) and Romania (-5.2 p.p.) saw their shares reduced. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest bed-convertible seat supplier in the European Union, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with an 8% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 5.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland amounted to +7.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Romania (-0.1% per year) and Germany (+1.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, rising by 15% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed a modest expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+9.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU
For the third year in a row, the European Union recorded growth in supplies from abroad of seats convertible into beds, which increased by 14% to X units in 2021. Overall, imports posted a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, bed-convertible seat imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +100.3% against 2012 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (1.8M units) and France (1.4M units) were the main importers of seats convertible into beds in the European Union, together achieving 44% of total imports. The Czech Republic (504K units) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Poland (430K units) and Italy (354K units). All these countries together took near 18% share of total imports. The following importers - Austria (309K units), Croatia (240K units), Spain (230K units), Sweden (228K units), Denmark (226K units), Belgium (190K units), the Netherlands (165K units) and Lithuania (158K units) - together made up 24% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +22.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest bed-convertible seat importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), France ($X) and Austria ($X), together comprising 51% of total imports. The Czech Republic, Italy, Poland, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Croatia, the Netherlands and Lithuania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.
Among the main importing countries, Lithuania, with a CAGR of +20.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, rising by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 60% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
