Preserved Asparagus Market Size in the EU

After three years of decline, the EU preserved asparagus market increased by X% to $X in 2020. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 when the market value increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, preserved asparagus production contracted to $X in 2020 estimated in export prices. Over the period under review, production saw a slight decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Production By Country in the EU

Spain (X tonnes) remains the largest preserved asparagus producing country in the European Union, accounting for X% of total volume. Moreover, preserved asparagus production in Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, the Netherlands (X tonnes), fourfold. Romania (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total production with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Spain totaled -X%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: the Netherlands (+X% per year) and Romania (-X% per year).

Preserved Asparagus Exports

Exports in the EU

For the third consecutive year, the European Union recorded growth in overseas shipments of preserved asparagus, which increased by X% to X tonnes in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, preserved asparagus exports skyrocketed to $X in 2020. In general, exports, however, showed a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands was the key exporter of preserved asparagus in the European Union, with the volume of exports accounting for X tonnes, which was near X% of total exports in 2020. Spain (X tonnes) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Germany (X%) and France (X%).

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by the Netherlands, while exports for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In 2020, supplies from abroad of preserved asparagus increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, showed a perceptible setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tonnes in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, preserved asparagus imports amounted to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible downturn. The preserved asparagus import price in the European Union stood at $X per tonne in 2020, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per tonne. from 2015 to 2020, the growth in terms of the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was France ($X per tonne), while Denmark ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
