The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +71.3% against 2012 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, France (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the major importers of plastic baths, wash-basins, lavatory pans and covers and similar sanitary ware in the European Union, together committing 38% of total imports. The Netherlands (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 10% share, followed by Italy (6.8%), Poland (6.7%), Belgium (6.7%) and Spain (4.6%). Austria (X tons), Romania (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Ireland (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 10% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while Ireland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
