The exports of the four major exporters of pine wood, namely Sweden, Finland, Germany and Austria, represented more than half of total export. Latvia (X cubic meters) took a X% share (based on tons) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (X%). Romania (X cubic meters), Belgium (X cubic meters), Slovenia (X cubic meters), France (X cubic meters), Estonia (X cubic meters) and Lithuania (X cubic meters) held the weak share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2017, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Lithuania (+X% per year), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Sweden ($X), Finland ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2017, together comprising X% of total exports. Austria, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovenia, Belgium, Estonia, France and Lithuania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

Slovenia (+X% per year) recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to exports, among the main exporting countries over the last decade, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The pine wood export price in the European Union stood at $X per cubic meter in 2017, declining by -X% against the previous year. The pine wood export price continues to indicate a slight contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011, when it surged by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the export prices for pine wood attained its maximum level of $X per cubic meter in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2017, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2017, the country with the highest export price was Sweden ($X per cubic meter), while the Czech Republic ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2017, the most notable rate of growth in terms of export prices was attained by Romania (+X% per year), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

The imports amounted to X cubic meters in 2017, going down by -X% against the previous year. The pine wood imports continue to indicate a significant downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010, when it surged by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the pine wood imports attained its peak figure volume of X cubic meters in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2017, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Imports into the UK decreased at an average annual rate of -X% from 2007 to 2017. At the same time, Estonia (+X%), Austria (+X%) and Latvia (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Estonia emerged as the fastest growing importer in the European Union, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2017. Slovenia and the Netherlands experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (-X%), Germany (-X%), France (-X%), Italy (-X%), Spain (-X%) and Denmark (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2007 to 2017, the share of the UK, Italy, Spain, Denmark and France increased by X%, X%, X%, X% and X% percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the UK ($X), Germany ($X) and Italy ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2017, with a combined X% share of total imports. Import prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest import price was Austria ($X per cubic meter), while Spain ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
