Exports in the EU
In 2022, overseas shipments of natural and modified natural polymers in primary forms decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, natural polymers exports stood at $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Italy was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by France (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Germany (X tons), together comprising a X% share of total exports. Poland (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Spain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Italy increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Poland (X%), the Netherlands (X%) and Spain (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. France and Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Italy (X p.p.), the Netherlands (X p.p.) and Poland (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Germany, Belgium and France saw its share reduced by X%, X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Poland, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth year in a row, the European Union recorded growth in overseas purchases of natural and modified natural polymers in primary forms, which increased by X% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2013 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The countries with the highest levels of natural polymers imports in 2022 were Germany (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Spain (X tons), France (X tons) and Italy (X tons), together recording X% of total import.
