The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 15% against the previous year. Belgium was the key exporter of mixtures of slag in the European Union, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 73% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Sweden (X tons), mixing up a 21% share of total exports. Latvia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Belgium decreased at an average annual rate of -10.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Latvia (+38.2%) and Sweden (+21.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Latvia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +38.2% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Sweden and Latvia increased by +19 and +3.6 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the largest mixtures of slag supplier in the European Union, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sweden ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Belgium totaled -9.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Sweden (+16.9% per year) and Latvia (+39.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 24% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of mixtures of slag, when their volume increased by 23% to X tons. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 109%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, mixtures of slag imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 96%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons) and France (X tons) dominates imports structure, together committing 80% of total imports. Latvia (X tons) held a 5.3% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Luxembourg (4.9%) and Denmark (4.7%). Poland (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Luxembourg (with a CAGR of +20.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported mixtures of slag in the European Union, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Denmark, with a 4.2% share.

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 2.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Luxembourg ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+22.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
