Exports in the EU

In 2021, shipments abroad of MDF increased by 16% to X cubic meters, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, MDF exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X cubic meters), distantly followed by Belgium (X cubic meters), Spain (X cubic meters), Poland (X cubic meters), Austria (X cubic meters), Romania (X cubic meters), the Netherlands (X cubic meters), Ireland (X cubic meters) and France (X cubic meters) were the largest exporters of MDF, together constituting 82% of total exports.

Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per cubic meter), while the Netherlands ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

For the tenth consecutive year, the European Union recorded growth in supplies from abroad of MDF, which increased by 11% to X cubic meters in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +82.3% against 2012 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +21.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest MDF importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 32% of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, Italy, Austria, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Portugal, Romania and Denmark, which together accounted for a further 49%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +22.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per cubic meter, surging by 22% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per cubic meter), while Belgium ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+2.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
