Mdf Market Size in the EU

For the fourth consecutive year, the EU mdf market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2019. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% year-to-year. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Mdf Production in the EU

In value terms, mdf production totaled $X in 2019 estimated in export prices. In general, production showed a slight setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the production volume increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Production By Country in the EU

Poland (X cubic meters) constituted the country with the largest volume of mdf production, accounting for X% of total volume. Moreover, mdf production in Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Spain (X cubic meters), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Germany (X cubic meters), with a X% share.

In Poland, mdf production increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007-2019. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Spain (+X% per year) and Germany (-X% per year).

Exports in the EU

In 2019, approx. X cubic meters of mdf were exported in the European Union; surging by X% compared with 2018. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2019; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. The volume of export peaked in 2019 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, mdf exports rose modestly to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2019, exports failed to regain the momentum.

The shipments of the four major exporters of mdf, namely Germany, Belgium, Poland and Spain, represented more than half of total export. Austria (X cubic meters) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by France (X%) and Ireland (X%). Romania (X cubic meters), Portugal (X cubic meters), Italy (X cubic meters), Hungary (X cubic meters) and the Netherlands (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2007 to 2019, the biggest increases were in Hungary, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The mdf export price in the European Union stood at $X per cubic meter in 2019, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of X% year-to-year. The level of export peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per cubic meter), while Romania ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy, while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2019 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007 to 2019; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years.
