Exports in the EU

For the fifth consecutive year, the European Union recorded growth in overseas shipments of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas, which increased by X% to X tonnes in 2020. Overall, exports continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen exports rose markedly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure in 2020 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

In 2020, the Netherlands (X tonnes) represented the key exporter of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas, constituting X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Spain (X tonnes) and Portugal (X tonnes), together mixing up a X% share of total exports. Germany (X tonnes), France (X tonnes) and Belgium (X tonnes) occupied a minor share of total exports.

Exports from the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2020. At the same time, Spain (+X%), Portugal (+X%) and Germany (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Spain emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2020. By contrast, France (-X%) and Belgium (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Spain (+X p.p.), the Netherlands (+X p.p.) and Portugal (+X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while France and Belgium saw its share reduced by -X% and -X% from 2007 to 2020, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest mango and mangosteen supplier in the European Union, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Spain ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Portugal, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Netherlands amounted to +X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Spain (+X% per year) and Portugal (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the mango and mangosteen export price in the European Union amounted to $X per tonne, increasing by X% against the previous year. Over the period from 2007 to 2020, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export prices reached the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while Spain ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in the EU

For the eighth year in a row, the European Union recorded growth in supplies from abroad of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas, which increased by X% to X tonnes in 2020. Over the period under review, imports saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2020 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen imports surged to $X in 2020. Overall, imports continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
