Handmade Paper Exports

Exports in the EU

In 2023, the amount of handmade paper and paperboard exported in the European Union shrank to X tons, which is down by X% compared with the year before. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, handmade paper exports fell to $X in 2023. In general, exports continue to indicate a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2022 to 2023, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

France prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. Italy (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Belgium (X%). The following exporters - Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of handmade paper and paperboard. At the same time, Poland (X%), Spain (X%), Italy (X%) and Belgium (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Sweden (X%) and Germany (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. France (X p.p.), Italy (X p.p.), Belgium (X p.p.), Poland (X p.p.) and Spain (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Germany saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2023, picking up by X% against the previous year. Export price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2023: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, handmade paper export price increased by X% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2023 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2023, the amount of handmade paper and paperboard imported in the European Union shrank sharply to X tons, reducing by X% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, handmade paper imports fell to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a slight downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country
