In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the EU flax, tow and waste market, when its value decreased by -X% to $X. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a abrupt slump. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, flax, tow and waste exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

France (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) dominates exports structure, together constituting X% of total exports. The following exporters - the Netherlands (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) - each accounted for a less than X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Lithuania (with a CAGR of +X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a mild descent. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports into Belgium increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Poland (+X%), France (+X%) and the Czech Republic (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012-2021. Lithuania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Spain (-X%) and the Netherlands (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of France and Belgium increased by +X and +X percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Import price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, flax, tow and waste import price decreased by -X% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by X%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
