In 2021, the EU dolomite market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, dolomite production rose to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in the EU

Dolomite exports soared to X tons in 2021, picking up by 17% against 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight curtailment. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Belgium (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) represented roughly 55% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Spain (X tons), Germany (X tons) and France (X tons), together comprising a 35% share of total exports. The following exporters - the Netherlands (X tons) and Poland (X tons) - together made up 5.2% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovakia (with a CAGR of +9.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest dolomite supplying countries in the European Union were Belgium ($X), France ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 49% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain, the Netherlands, Slovakia and Poland, which together accounted for a further 38%.

Spain, with a CAGR of +6.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a slight descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 11%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+3.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of chalk and dolomite was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite imports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of dolomite imports in 2021 were the Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Poland (X tons), together finishing at 78% of total import. France (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 5.7% share, followed by Sweden (5.2%).

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +3.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 51% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Poland, Sweden and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further 29%.

Among the main importing countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +5.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, growing by 3% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 11% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
