Copper Chain Exports
Exports in the EU
In 2022, copper chain exports in the European Union declined to X tons, with a decrease of X% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by X%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, copper chain exports expanded notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Italy (X tons) and France (X tons) were the largest exporters of chain and parts thereof of copper in 2022, amounting to approx. X% and X% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Germany (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Romania (X tons), together mixing up a X% share of total exports. The Czech Republic (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Spain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest copper chain supplier in the European Union, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Italy was relatively modest. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (X% per year) and Germany (X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, increasing by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU
In 2022, the amount of chain and parts thereof of copper imported in the European Union contracted to X tons, which is down by X% on 2021. In general, imports recorded a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, copper chain imports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Italy (X tons), distantly followed by Germany (X tons), France (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main importers of chain and parts thereof of copper, together mixing up X% of total imports. Portugal (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Greece (X tons), Poland (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to copper chain imports into Italy stood at X%. At the same time, Sweden (X%), Bulgaria (X%), Portugal (X%), Poland (X%), Greece (X%), Spain (X%), Germany (X%), France (X%) and the Netherlands (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Sweden emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Romania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (X%) and Slovakia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Germany, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Portugal, Spain, Romania, Poland and Greece increased by X, X, X, X, X, X, X, X and X percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, France ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined X% share of total imports. The Netherlands, Romania, Portugal, Greece, Bulgaria, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Poland and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.
Among the main importing countries, Sweden, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by X% against the previous year. Import price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, copper chain import price increased by X% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
