Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X square meters in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, carpet exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Belgium (X square meters) and the Netherlands (X square meters) represented roughly 67% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Germany (X square meters), comprising a 7.8% share of total exports. The following exporters - Poland (X square meters), the Czech Republic (X square meters), Austria (X square meters), France (X square meters), Italy (X square meters), Spain (X square meters), Denmark (X square meters) and Bulgaria (X square meters) - together made up 21% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +26.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belgium ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 68% of total exports. Poland, Denmark, Italy, France, Spain, Austria, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.

Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +22.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per square meter, with an increase of 4.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 7.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per square meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per square meter), while the Czech Republic ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to carpet imports into Germany stood at +4.3%. Moreover, Bulgaria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +22.2% from 2012-2021. Spain (+3.8 p.p.), Bulgaria (+1.6 p.p.) and Belgium (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Germany saw its share reduced by -2.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported carpets and other textile floor coverings in the European Union, comprising 25% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (+3.4% per year) and France (+1.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per square meter in 2021, growing by 4.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced decline. The level of import peaked at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
