In 2021, shipments abroad of carbides was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU

After two years of decline, overseas purchases of carbides increased by X% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, carbides imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Germany represented the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by France (X tons), Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons), Belgium (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Sweden (X tons), together comprising a X% share of total imports.

Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of carbides. At the same time, Poland (+X%), France (+X%) and Italy (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012-2021. Sweden and Belgium experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of France increased by +X percentage points.
