Imports by Country

Germany (X units) and France (X units) represented roughly 38% of total imports in 2021. Italy (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by the Netherlands (8.4%), Spain (7.9%), Poland (7%) and Belgium (4.7%). Austria (X units), Greece (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Denmark (X units), Sweden (X units) and Croatia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Croatia (with a CAGR of +14.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 47% of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Poland, Spain, Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Denmark, Croatia and Greece, which together accounted for a further 45%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Croatia, with a CAGR of +20.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, growing by 8.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 10%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while Greece ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+12.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
