Benzene Market Size in the EU
In 2021, the EU benzene market increased by X% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, benzene production rose significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.
Production By Country in the EU
The countries with the highest volumes of in 2021 were Germany (X tonnes), Belgium (X tonnes) and the Netherlands (X tonnes), with a combined X% share of total production. France, Austria, Sweden, Romania, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Greece and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the leading producing countries, was attained by Austria (with a CAGR of +X%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Benzene Exports
Exports in the EU
In 2021, overseas shipments of benzene increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, saw a slight contraction. The volume of export peaked at X tonnes in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, benzene exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a pronounced reduction. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the three major exporters of benzene, namely Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, represented more than two-thirds of total export. Poland (X tonnes) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Hungary (X%) and France (X%). Spain (X tonnes) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest benzene supplying countries in the European Union were the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X), together comprising X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Poland, Hungary, Spain and France, which together accounted for a further X the main exporting countries, Spain, with a CAGR of +X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per tonne, rising by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The level of export peaked at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per tonne), while France ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (-X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU
In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of benzene, when their volume increased by X% to X tonnes. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, benzene imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Belgium (X tonnes) and the Netherlands (X tonnes) were the main importers of benzene in the European Union, together creating X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Germany (X tonnes), Spain (X tonnes), France (X tonnes), Italy (X tonnes) and Portugal (X tonnes), together committing a X% share of total imports.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per tonne), while France ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
