Beer Market Size in the EU
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was growth in the EU beer market, when its value increased by X% to $X. In general, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Beer Production in the EU
In value terms, beer production rose to $X in 2021 estimated in export prices. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the production volume increased by X% year-to-year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Production By Country in the EU
The countries with the highest volumes of beer production in 2021 were Germany (X tonnes), Poland (X tonnes) and Spain (X tonnes), with a combined X% share of total production. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, France, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Italy and Romania, which together accounted for a further X 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Italy (+X%), while beer production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the tenth consecutive year, the European Union recorded growth in overseas shipments of beer, which increased by X% to X tonnes in 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, beer exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
In 2021, the Netherlands (X tonnes), Belgium (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes) represented the largest exporter of beer in the European Union, constituting X% of total export. The Czech Republic (X tonnes) took a X% share (based on tonnes) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by France (X%) and Poland (X%). Ireland (X tonnes), Italy (X tonnes), Spain (X tonnes), Denmark (X tonnes) and Portugal (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The beer export price in the European Union stood at $X per tonne in 2021, increasing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per tonne), while Poland ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of beer decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second year in a row after six years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% y-o-y. The volume of import peaked at X tonnes in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, beer imports totaled $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, France (X tonnes), Italy (X tonnes), Germany (X tonnes), the Netherlands (X tonnes) and Spain (X tonnes) represented the largest importer of beer in the European Union, mixing up X% of total import.
