Tractor Market Size in Egypt

After three years of growth, the Egyptian tractor market decreased by -65.7% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

Tractor Production in Egypt

In value terms, tractor production stood at $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Egypt

For the fourth consecutive year, Egypt recorded decline in shipments abroad of tractors, which decreased by 0% to X units in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 121% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, tractor exports shrank slightly to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 100%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Mali (X units) was the main destination for tractor exports from Egypt, with a 50% share of total exports. Moreover, tractor exports to Mali exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sudan (X units), twofold. The United Arab Emirates (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Mali was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sudan (-18.5% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (0.0% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for tractor exported from Egypt were Zambia ($X), Mali ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 84% share of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Zambia, with a CAGR of +150.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average tractor export price amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -2.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 32%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Zambia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Serbia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Zambia (+421.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Tractor Imports

Imports into Egypt

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of tractors decreased by -57% to X units in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a slight downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 79% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2020, and then fell significantly in the following year.

In value terms, tractor imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 115% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X units) constituted the largest tractor supplier to Egypt, with a 23% share of total imports. Moreover, tractor imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X units), threefold. Belarus (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany stood at +13.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-4.9% per year) and Belarus (-2.4% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tractor to Egypt, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 5.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 4.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany totaled +8.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-6.1% per year) and Belarus (-9.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average tractor import price amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 7.1% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, tractor import price increased by +20.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 83% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+9.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
