Exports from Egypt

In 2023, overseas shipments of silk yarn and yarn spun from silk waste increased by X% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, silk yarn exports skyrocketed to $X in 2023. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The Czech Republic (X tons), Libya (X tons) and Yemen (X kg) were the main destinations of silk yarn exports from Egypt, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Jordan, which accounted for a further X%.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Jordan (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2023, approx. X kg of silk yarn and yarn spun from silk waste were imported into Egypt; rising by X% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, recorded a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by X%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, silk yarn imports skyrocketed to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a notable increase.
