Domestic Appliances Market Size in Egypt

The Egyptian domestic appliances market fell modestly to $X in 2021, reducing by -3% against the previous year. In 2021, approx. X units of domestic appliances were exported from Egypt; jumping by 31% on the previous year. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 90% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, domestic appliances exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +28.0% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 50% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Iraq (X units), Saudi Arabia (X units) and Libya (X units) were the main destinations of domestic appliances exports from Egypt, together accounting for 42% of total exports. Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Sudan, Yemen, Algeria, Jordan, France, Tunisia, Turkey and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +42.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for domestic appliances exported from Egypt were France ($X), Iraq ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X), together accounting for 38% of total exports. Libya, Spain, Morocco, Jordan, Sudan, Yemen, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 46%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Turkey, with a CAGR of +49.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average domestic appliances export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 123%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tunisia (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Egypt

In 2021, overseas purchases of domestic appliances were finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, showed a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, domestic appliances imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

China (X units), Turkey (X units) and Poland (X units) were the main suppliers of domestic appliances imports to Egypt.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +30.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), China ($X) and Italy ($X) constituted the largest domestic appliances suppliers to Egypt, together accounting for 57% of total imports. Poland, Brazil, Thailand, Germany, Malaysia and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +16.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average domestic appliances import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 16%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for Brazil ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
