Cinnamon Market Size in Egypt

The revenue of the cinnamon market in Egypt amounted to $X in 2018, increasing by X% against the previous year. In value terms, cinnamon exports stood at $X in 2018. Overall, cinnamon exports, however, continue to indicate an abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of X% year-to-year. In that year, cinnamon exports attained their peak of $X. From 2015 to 2018, the growth of cinnamon exports failed to regain its momentum.

Exports by Country

Libya (X kg), the UK (X kg) and Poland (X kg) were the main destinations of cinnamon exports from Egypt, with a combined X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Poland (+X% per year), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the UK ($X), Libya ($X) and Kuwait ($X) constituted the largest markets for cinnamon exported from Egypt worldwide, together comprising X% of total exports. Germany, Saudi Arabia, Poland, South Africa, France, Oman, Sweden, Spain and Tunisia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X Africa experienced the highest rates of growth with regard to exports, among the main countries of destination over the last eleven-year period, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average cinnamon export price stood at $X per tonne in 2018, dropping by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the cinnamon export price, however, continues to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices for cinnamon (canella) attained their maximum at $X per tonne in 2017, and then declined slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Tunisia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Egypt

In 2018, approx. X tonnes of cinnamon (canella) were imported into Egypt; dropping by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, cinnamon imports, however, continue to indicate a slight expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, cinnamon imports reached their peak figure at X tonnes in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2018, imports failed to regain their momentum.

In value terms, cinnamon imports amounted to $X in 2018. Over the period under review, cinnamon imports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2018, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2018, China (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of cinnamon to Egypt, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, cinnamon imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Viet Nam (X tonnes), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Indonesia (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Viet Nam (+X% per year) and Indonesia (+X% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cinnamon to Egypt, comprising X% of total cinnamon imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Viet Nam ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a X% share.
