Acyclic Hydrocarbons Market Size in Egypt

Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, acyclic hydrocarbons exports contracted markedly to $X in 2020. In general, exports recorded a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports attained the maximum at $X in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa (X tonnes) was the main destination for acyclic hydrocarbons exports from Egypt, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, acyclic hydrocarbons exports to South Africa exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Turkey (X tonnes), fourfold. China (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to South Africa stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (-X% per year) and China (+X% per year).

In value terms, Turkey ($X), South Africa ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for acyclic hydrocarbons exported from Egypt worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports.

China (+X% per year) recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average acyclic hydrocarbons export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, with an increase of X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average export prices reached the maximum at $X per tonne in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to China ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2020, overseas purchases of acyclic hydrocarbons decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. In general, imports recorded a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, acyclic hydrocarbons imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2020. Overall, imports faced a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2020, the U.S. (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of acyclic hydrocarbons to Egypt, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, acyclic hydrocarbons imports from the U.S. exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Korea (X tonnes), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Belgium (X tonnes), with a X% share.

As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per tonne. from 2015 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average import prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per tonne), while the price for South Korea ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
