Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of way-type unit heads for working metal, when their volume increased by 985% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports recorded a prominent increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, way-type unit head exports declined markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a dramatic slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 86% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Hungary (X tons) represented the key exporter of way-type unit heads for working metal in Eastern Europe, creating 98% of total export.

Hungary was also the fastest-growing in terms of the way-type unit heads for working metal exports, with a CAGR of +80.4% from 2012 to 2021. While the share of Hungary (+96 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Hungary ($X) also remains the largest way-type unit head supplier in Eastern Europe.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Hungary stood at +2.4%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -95.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a precipitous curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 121%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Hungary.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Hungary amounted to -43.2% per year.

In 2021, purchases abroad of way-type unit heads for working metal was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. In general, imports continue to indicate a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 190% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, way-type unit head imports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 231% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Hungary represented the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 66% of total imports. Poland (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X tons). All these countries together took near 24% share of total imports. Romania (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Hungary was also the fastest-growing in terms of the way-type unit heads for working metal imports, with a CAGR of +72.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Poland (+14.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Slovakia (-6.4%), Bulgaria (-9.3%), the Czech Republic (-13.0%) and Romania (-17.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Hungary and Poland increased by +65 and +8.7 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Slovakia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 84% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +13.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -42.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price faced a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 171% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+5.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
