Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of way-type unit heads for working metal, when their volume increased by 985% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports recorded a prominent increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, way-type unit head exports declined markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a dramatic slump. In 2021, purchases abroad of way-type unit heads for working metal was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. In general, imports continue to indicate a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 190% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, way-type unit head imports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 231% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Hungary represented the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 66% of total imports. Poland (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X tons). All these countries together took near 24% share of total imports. Romania (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Hungary was also the fastest-growing in terms of the way-type unit heads for working metal imports, with a CAGR of +72.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Poland (+14.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Slovakia (-6.4%), Bulgaria (-9.3%), the Czech Republic (-13.0%) and Romania (-17.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Hungary and Poland increased by +65 and +8.7 percentage points, respectively.

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -42.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price faced a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 171% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+5.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
