Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, uncoated filter paper exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 71% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Lithuania represented the largest exporter of uncoated filter paper and paperboard in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 38% of total exports in 2022. Russia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 18% share, followed by the Czech Republic (17%), Bulgaria (13%) and Poland (9.5%). Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to uncoated filter paper exports from Lithuania stood at +15.4%. At the same time, Belarus (+48.3%), Russia (+11.4%), the Czech Republic (+4.5%) and Poland (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +48.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Bulgaria (-10.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, the largest uncoated filter paper supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Lithuania ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 81% share of total exports.

Lithuania, with a CAGR of +18.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, imports of uncoated filter paper and paperboard in Eastern Europe rose significantly to X tons, growing by 5.6% against 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, uncoated filter paper imports amounted to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The Czech Republic was the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 49% of total imports. In terms of the main importing countries, Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +7.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 19%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Poland ($X per ton) and the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
