For the ninth year in a row, the East European uncoated felt paper market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 12% to $X in 2022. In value terms, uncoated felt paper exports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 34% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The Czech Republic prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 94% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Poland (X tons), making up a 5% share of total exports.

The Czech Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of uncoated felt paper and paperboard. Poland (-18.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the Czech Republic increased by +43 percentage points.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the largest uncoated felt paper supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 6.3% share of total exports.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic stood at $X per ton.

In 2022, overseas purchases of uncoated felt paper and paperboard decreased by -2.4% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after nine years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 66%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, uncoated felt paper imports totaled $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 95%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

The purchases of the one major importers of uncoated felt paper and paperboard, namely Poland, represented more than two-thirds of total import.

Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the uncoated felt paper and paperboard imports, with a CAGR of +21.5% from 2012 to 2022. While the share of Poland (+31 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported uncoated felt paper and paperboard in Eastern Europe.
