Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2018, approx. X tons of semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice were exported in Eastern Europe; going down by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, milled rice exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, milled rice exports attained their peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2018, exports failed to regain their momentum.

In value terms, milled rice exports amounted to $X in 2018. Overall, milled rice exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. The level of exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2018, exports failed to regain their momentum.

Exports by Country

Russia represented the key exporter of semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice exported in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2018. Poland (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons). All these countries together occupied near X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Romania (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice exports, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007 to 2018. At the same time, Bulgaria (+X%), Poland (+X%), Romania (+X%), Lithuania (+X%) and the Czech Republic (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Hungary experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2007 to 2018, the share of Russia, Poland, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Romania and Lithuania increased by +X%, +X%, +X%, +X%, +X% and +X% percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest milled rice markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports.

Russia experienced the highest rates of growth with regard to market size, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2018, the milled rice export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by X% against the previous year. From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2018, the amount of semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice imported in Eastern Europe totaled X tons, growing by X% against the previous year. In general, milled rice imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X% year-to-year. The volume of imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2018, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, milled rice imports amounted to $X in 2018. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2018; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. In that year, milled rice imports reached their peak of $X. From 2009 to 2018, the growth of milled rice imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2018, Russia (X tons), distantly followed by Poland (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Ukraine (X tons), Romania (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the largest importers of semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice, together making up X% of total imports.

The milled rice import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2018, increasing by X% against the previous year. Over the last eleven years, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. In that year, the import prices for semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice attained their peak level of $X per ton. From 2009 to 2018, the growth in terms of the import prices for semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice remained at a somewhat lower figure.
