Roundwood Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2022, the East European roundwood market increased by X% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total consumption indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, roundwood exports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, roundwood imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Moldova prevails in imports structure, recording X cubic meters, which was near X% of total imports in 2022. Poland (X cubic meters) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Slovakia (X cubic meters), Latvia (X cubic meters) and Romania (X cubic meters). All these countries together held near X% share of total imports. The Czech Republic (X cubic meters) and Estonia (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Moldova was also the fastest-growing in terms of the roundwood imports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Slovakia (X%), Estonia (X%), Latvia (X%), Romania (X%) and Poland (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the Czech Republic (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Moldova (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Slovakia, Latvia, Romania, Poland and the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by X%, X%, X%, X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
