From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, polycarboxylic acid exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a pronounced downturn. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Poland (X tons) represented the key exporter of polycarboxylic acids, generating 66% of total exports. Russia (X tons) took a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Belarus (6.8%). The following exporters - Hungary (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) - together made up 7.1% of total exports.

Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of polycarboxylic acids. At the same time, Belarus (+7.9%), Russia (+7.3%), Hungary (+3.5%) and the Czech Republic (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +7.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Bulgaria (-1.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+8.3 p.p.) and Belarus (+3.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Poland saw its share reduced by -6.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest polycarboxylic acid supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with an 8.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland totaled -5.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+5.8% per year) and Hungary (+6.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 43% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a pronounced setback. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+2.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, approx. X tons of polycarboxylic acids were imported in Eastern Europe; surging by 5.1% compared with the year before. Total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -4.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 15%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
