Melon Seed Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2022, the East European melon seed market increased by X% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a significant increase. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of melon seed, when their volume decreased by X% to X tons. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, melon seed exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Ukraine was the largest exporter of melon seed in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Lithuania (X tons), Romania (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Poland (X tons), together mixing up a X% share of total exports.

Ukraine was also the fastest-growing in terms of the melon seed exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Romania (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Bulgaria (X%), Lithuania (X%) and Poland (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, melon seed imports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
