Mechanical Wood Pulp Exports

Exports in Eastern Europe

Mechanical wood pulp exports rose rapidly to X tons in 2022, picking up by X% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a dramatic setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, mechanical wood pulp exports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a dramatic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Slovakia represented the key exporter of mechanical wood pulp in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Lithuania (X tons), creating a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Russia (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Romania (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to mechanical wood pulp exports from Slovakia stood at X%. At the same time, Lithuania (X%) and Romania (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lithuania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Moldova experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Russia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Slovakia (X p.p.), Lithuania (X p.p.), Russia (X p.p.), Moldova (X p.p.) and Romania (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, reducing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, purchases abroad of mechanical wood pulp decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, mechanical wood pulp imports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X tons) represented the largest importer of mechanical wood pulp, generating X% of total imports. Russia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Hungary (X%) and the Czech Republic (X%). Latvia (X tons) and Estonia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into Poland increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Estonia (X%), Hungary (X%), Latvia (X%), Russia (X%) and the Czech Republic (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Estonia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022.
