Meat And Poultry Market Size in Eastern Europe

The East European meat and poultry market totaled $X in 2022, rising by X% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a mild curtailment. Russia (X tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of meat and poultry production, comprising approx. X% of total volume. Moreover, meat and poultry production in Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Poland (X tons), twofold. Ukraine (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Russia totaled X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (X% per year) and Ukraine (X% per year).

In 2022, the average meat and poultry yield in Eastern Europe fell to X kg per head, almost unchanged from the previous year's figure. Overall, the yield, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the yield increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X kg per head, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

In 2022, approx. X heads of animals slaughtered for meat and poultry production in Eastern Europe; increasing by X% on the previous year. This number increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the number of producing animals increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, this number hit record highs at X heads in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, producing animals stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe

For the eleventh year in a row, Eastern Europe recorded growth in shipments abroad of meat and poultry, which increased by X% to X tons in 2022. Total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, meat and poultry exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X tons) represented the largest exporter of meat and poultry, creating X% of total exports. Russia (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Ukraine (X%), Hungary (X%) and Belarus (X%). The following exporters - Romania (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) - each reached a X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to meat and poultry exports from Poland stood at X%. At the same time, Russia (X%), Ukraine (X%), Belarus (X%) and Hungary (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Romania and the Czech Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, purchases abroad of meat and poultry increased by X% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild setback. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, meat and poultry imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X tons), distantly followed by Russia (X tons), Romania (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Belarus (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) represented the major importers of meat and poultry, together committing X% of total imports. Lithuania (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
