Exports in Eastern Europe

For the third year in a row, Eastern Europe recorded growth in shipments abroad of maleic anhydride, which increased by X% to X tons in 2022. Total exports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, maleic anhydride exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Hungary was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), achieving a X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to maleic anhydride exports from Hungary stood at X%. At the same time, Russia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. While the share of Russia (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Hungary (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

Export price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, maleic anhydride export price increased by X% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by X%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Russia stood at $X per ton.

In 2022, maleic anhydride imports in Eastern Europe shrank markedly to X tons, with a decrease of X% compared with the previous year. Total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

In value terms, maleic anhydride imports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Imports by Country

Poland was the key importer of maleic anhydride in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2022. Russia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X tons). All these countries together took near X% share of total imports. The following importers - Hungary (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) - together made up X% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported maleic anhydride in Eastern Europe, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with an X% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland stood at X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (X% per year) and the Czech Republic (X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a slight increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
