In 2022, the East European metal gas appliances market increased by 8.6% to $X, rising for the third consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a slight setback. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, shipments abroad of iron or steel gas domestic appliances increased by 58% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 127% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, metal gas appliances exports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a pronounced expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 65% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Belarus was the largest exporting country with an export of about X units, which resulted at 59% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Poland (X units), comprising a 26% share of total exports. The following exporters - the Czech Republic (X units), Estonia (X units) and Russia (X units) - each accounted for a 12% share of total exports.

Belarus was also the fastest-growing in terms of the iron or steel gas domestic appliances exports, with a CAGR of +190.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Russia (+39.8%), Poland (+30.6%) and the Czech Republic (+6.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Estonia (-1.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belarus (+59 p.p.), Poland (+12 p.p.) and Russia (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Czech Republic and Estonia saw its share reduced by -12.5% and -29.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Belarus ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 61% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +98.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -32% against the previous year. In general, the export price faced a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 58%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Estonia (+14.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, overseas purchases of iron or steel gas domestic appliances decreased by -2.9% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 448% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, metal gas appliances imports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a noticeable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 227%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Poland was the key importer of iron or steel gas domestic appliances in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was near 38% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X units), Romania (X units), Russia (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Slovakia (X units) and Ukraine (X units), together mixing up a 54% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to metal gas appliances imports into Poland stood at +25.1%. At the same time, Belarus (+45.0%), Ukraine (+26.1%), the Czech Republic (+17.9%), Slovakia (+14.4%) and Romania (+13.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +45.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Russia (-4.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+24 p.p.), Belarus (+13 p.p.), Ukraine (+4.8 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (+2.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-37.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported iron or steel gas domestic appliances in Eastern Europe, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with a 12% share.

In Poland, metal gas appliances imports increased at an average annual rate of +17.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+14.3% per year) and Russia (-7.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, growing by 5.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 27% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
