Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, approx. X cubic meters of industrial roundwood (coniferous) were exported in Eastern Europe; declining by -20.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports saw a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 16% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X cubic meters in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, industrial roundwood (coniferous) exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, the Czech Republic (X cubic meters) represented the key exporter of industrial roundwood (coniferous), mixing up 62% of total exports. Poland (X cubic meters) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Slovakia (X cubic meters) and Latvia (X cubic meters). All these countries together took near 27% share of total exports. The following exporters - Estonia (X cubic meters), Belarus (X cubic meters) and Lithuania (X cubic meters) - together made up 9.4% of total exports.

The Czech Republic was also the fastest-growing in terms of the industrial roundwood (coniferous) exports, with a CAGR of +11.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Poland (+5.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Slovakia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belarus (-4.0%), Latvia (-5.4%), Estonia (-7.2%) and Lithuania (-7.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the largest industrial roundwood (coniferous) supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Latvia, with a 5.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Czech Republic totaled +11.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+8.8% per year) and Latvia (+0.2% per year).

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, rising by 6.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 43%. Import price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, industrial roundwood (coniferous) import price increased by +54.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
