Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +75.7% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

In value terms, plastic household articles exports shrank slightly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +62.5% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports by Country

Poland prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 58% of total exports in 2022. Hungary (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 9.7% share, followed by the Czech Republic (8.7%) and Russia (8.5%). The following exporters - Romania (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) - together made up 9.9% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic household articles exports from Poland stood at +6.5%. At the same time, Romania (+17.7%), Russia (+16.6%), Bulgaria (+9.8%), the Czech Republic (+7.8%) and Belarus (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +17.7% from 2012-2022. Hungary experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Russia (+5.3 p.p.), Poland (+3.6 p.p.) and Romania (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Hungary saw its share reduced by -8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest plastic household articles supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland stood at +7.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (+7.3% per year) and Hungary (+0.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 10%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+1.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, supplies from abroad of household articles and toilet articles of plastics decreased by -3.8% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year rising trend. Total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +61.0% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 12%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

In value terms, plastic household articles imports fell slightly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +103.7% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 21%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the five major importers of household articles and toilet articles of plastics, namely Russia, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Romania, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Slovakia (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 5.1% share, followed by Ukraine (4.8%).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +15.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 58% share of total imports. Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 2.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 10%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
