Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, overseas shipments of frozen potatoes prepared or preserved were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, preserved frozen potato exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Poland dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 88% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), committing a 4.6% share of total exports. The Czech Republic (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Russia (+71.8%) and the Czech Republic (+5.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +71.8% from 2012-2021. Russia (+4.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Poland saw its share reduced by -5.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest preserved frozen potato supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland amounted to +4.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (+65.5% per year) and the Czech Republic (+7.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 3.4% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 7.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, imports of frozen potatoes prepared or preserved in Eastern Europe skyrocketed to X tons, picking up by 29% compared with the year before. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, preserved frozen potato imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Poland (X tons), distantly followed by Russia (X tons), Romania (X tons), Hungary (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) represented the major importers of frozen potatoes prepared or preserved, together comprising 85% of total imports. Slovakia (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +18.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
