For the fifth consecutive year, Eastern Europe recorded growth in overseas shipments of champagne, which increased by X% to X tons in 2020. In general, exports recorded tangible growth. In value terms, the largest champagne supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Latvia ($X), Lithuania ($X) and Estonia ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports.

Lithuania, with a CAGR of +X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The champagne export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2020, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the period from 2007 to 2020, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2020 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2020, supplies from abroad of champagne decreased by -X% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, champagne imports skyrocketed to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2020 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

The purchases of the four major importers of champagne, namely Latvia, Lithuania, the Czech Republic and Poland, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Estonia (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Slovakia (X tons) and Romania (X tons). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total imports.
