Berry Market Size in Eastern Europe

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, shipments abroad of berries increased by X% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Total exports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, berry exports rose modestly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Eastern Europe

After two years of growth, overseas purchases of berries decreased by X% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by X%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, berry imports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at X% of total imports. Poland (X tons) took an X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Romania (X%) and the Czech Republic (X%). The following importers - Belarus (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), Latvia (X tons), Estonia (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) - together made up X% of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Romania (X%), Latvia (X%), Estonia (X%), Poland (X%), Belarus (X%), Hungary (X%), Slovakia (X%), the Czech Republic (X%) and Bulgaria (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Lithuania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Poland, Romania, Latvia, Belarus and Estonia increased by X, X, X, X and X percentage points, respectively.
