The East European beer market totaled $X in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced decline. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, beer production totaled $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. Beer Exports
Exports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, shipments abroad of beer decreased by X% to X litres for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X litres in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, beer exports shrank to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, the Czech Republic (X litres) and Poland (X litres) were the major exporters of beer in Eastern Europe, together finishing at approx. X% of total exports. Russia (X litres) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Lithuania (X litres). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total exports. Estonia (X litres), Belarus (X litres), Ukraine (X litres), Hungary (X litres), Romania (X litres), Latvia (X litres) and Slovakia (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Lithuania (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest beer supplying countries in Eastern Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Poland ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Romania, Hungary, Belarus, Ukraine and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
Among the main exporting countries, Lithuania, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per litre in 2022, picking up by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per litre in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per litre), while Belarus ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, supplies from abroad of beer decreased by X% to X litres for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X litres in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, beer imports dropped sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell notably in the following year.
Imports by Country
Russia was the key importer of beer in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports reaching X litres, which was near X% of total imports in 2022. Hungary (X litres) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Slovakia (X litres), Belarus (X litres), Latvia (X litres), Poland (X litres), Lithuania (X litres) and Bulgaria (X litres). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total imports.
Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Latvia (X%), Bulgaria (X%), Hungary (X%), Poland (X%), Slovakia (X%) and Belarus (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Latvia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Lithuania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Russia and Latvia increased by X and X percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported beer in Eastern Europe, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Slovakia ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a X% share.
In Russia, beer imports increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Slovakia (X% per year) and Poland (X% per year).

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per litre in 2022, with a decrease of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per litre in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per litre), while Belarus ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
