Exports in Eastern Europe
After four years of growth, shipments abroad of antibiotics decreased by X% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then reduced sharply in the following year.
In value terms, antibiotic exports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Bulgaria dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Hungary (X tons), Romania (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Belarus (X tons), together generating a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - the Czech Republic (X tons) and Poland (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.
Bulgaria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of antibiotics. At the same time, Belarus (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Hungary and Romania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Slovakia (X%), Poland (X%) and the Czech Republic (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Bulgaria (X p.p.) and Belarus (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Poland (X p.p.) and the Czech Republic (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Hungary ($X) remains the largest antibiotic supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bulgaria ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Romania, with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Hungary stood at X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bulgaria (X% per year) and Romania (X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a mild downturn. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X,488 per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Antibiotic imports stood at X tons in 2022, surging by X% against the year before. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, antibiotic imports reached $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Russia represented the key importer of antibiotics in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2022. Bulgaria (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an X% share, followed by Belarus (X%), Romania (X%) and Poland (X%). The following importers - Ukraine (X tons) and Estonia (X tons) - each accounted for an X% share of total imports.
