Exports in Eastern Asia

In 2022, the amount of wood fuel exported in Eastern Asia expanded significantly to X cubic meters, increasing by X% on the previous year. In general, exports, however, saw a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by X%. The volume of export peaked at X cubic meters in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wood fuel exports shrank slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, China (X cubic meters) represented the major exporter of wood fuel, generating X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Japan (X cubic meters), committing a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Taiwan (Chinese) (X cubic meters) and Hong Kong SAR (X cubic meters) - each reached a X% share of total exports.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the wood fuel exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Hong Kong SAR (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Japan (X%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (X p.p.) and Japan (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Taiwan (Chinese) (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest wood fuel supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a X% share.

In China, wood fuel exports expanded at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (X% per year) and Japan (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, dropping by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per cubic meter), while Japan ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of wood fuel decreased by X% to X cubic meters in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X cubic meters in 2021, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, wood fuel imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

China represented the main importer of wood fuel in Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports finishing at X cubic meters, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Japan (X cubic meters), constituting a X% share of total imports.

Imports into China increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Japan (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Japan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China and Japan increased by X and X percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
