In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates production shrank to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

For the fourth consecutive year, Eastern Asia recorded decline in shipments abroad of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates, which decreased by -14.1% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates exports contracted to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 2.4% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) was the main exporter of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates in Eastern Asia, constituting 99% of total export.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates exports, with a CAGR of -15.0% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) also remains the largest chlorates, bromates and iodates supplier in Eastern Asia.

Imports in Eastern Asia

Chlorates, bromates and iodates imports totaled X tons in 2021, growing by 1.8% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 176% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates imports contracted slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 101%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Japan (X tons) represented the main importer of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates, comprising 73% of total imports. South Korea (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 25% share of total imports. China (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to chlorates, bromates and iodates imports into Japan stood at -2.9%. At the same time, China (+7.6%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, China emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +7.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, South Korea (-2.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Taiwan (Chinese) increased by +5.7 percentage points. In value terms, Japan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates in Eastern Asia, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Japan stood at -5.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (+2.4% per year) and China (-1.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -4.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 89% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Japan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+4.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
