Photographic Paper Market Size in Denmark

In 2021, the Danish photographic paper market increased by 211% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a deep contraction. Photographic paper consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles, when their volume decreased by -53.2% to X square meters. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 516% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X square meters in 2020, and then fell notably in the following year.

In value terms, photographic paper exports reduced markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 592% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Norway (X square meters) was the main destination for photographic paper exports from Denmark, accounting for a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, photographic paper exports to Norway exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Faroe Islands (X square meters), more than tenfold. Japan (X square meters) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 1.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Norway stood at +31.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Faroe Islands (+9.1% per year) and Japan (+98.5% per year).

In value terms, Norway ($X) remains the key foreign market for photographic paper, paperboard and textiles exports from Denmark, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Faroe Islands ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Sweden, with a 5.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Norway totaled +197.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Faroe Islands (+9.6% per year) and Sweden (+21.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average photographic paper export price stood at $X per square meter in 2021, waning by -31% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 208% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Norway ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+58.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, after eight years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles, when their volume increased by 54% to X square meters. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt descent. Imports peaked at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, photographic paper imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, faced a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 72% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Sweden (X square meters) was the main supplier of photographic paper to Denmark, accounting for a 91% share of total imports. Moreover, photographic paper imports from Sweden exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X square meters), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X square meters), with a 0.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Sweden totaled -2.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (-33.7% per year) and Germany (-49.6% per year).

In value terms, Sweden ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest photographic paper suppliers to Denmark, with a combined 95% share of total imports.

Sweden, with a CAGR of -1.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In 2021, the average photographic paper import price amounted to $X per square meter, picking up by 6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, photographic paper import price increased by +1.4% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 92% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per square meter), while the price for Sweden ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
