The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 38% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Germany (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) were the main destinations of paper and paperboard exports from Denmark, together accounting for 54% of total exports. These countries were followed by the UK, Poland, Belgium, Norway, France, the Czech Republic, Finland and Slovakia, which together accounted for a further 34%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +17.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for paper and paperboard exports from Denmark, comprising 27% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sweden ($X), with a 7.5% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 6.7% share.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Austria (with a CAGR of +6.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
