In general, exports recorded a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 67%. The exports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, laser exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 37%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Germany (X units) was the main destination for laser exports from Denmark, with a 30% share of total exports. Moreover, laser exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X units), twofold. The UK (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany stood at -2.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (-5.7% per year) and the UK (+9.3% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X), the United States ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X) were the largest markets for laser exported from Denmark worldwide, together accounting for 57% of total exports. These countries were followed by Israel, Japan, the Netherlands, the UK, China, France, Norway, Poland and Switzerland, which together accounted for a further 34%.
Among the main countries of destination, Israel, with a CAGR of +94.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average laser export price amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 122% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw significant growth. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Norway ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+40.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Denmark
In 2021, purchases abroad of lasers, other than laser diodes decreased by -26.5% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, laser imports declined to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -13.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 40%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The UK (X units), Germany (X units) and China (X units) were the main suppliers of laser imports to Denmark, together comprising 58% of total imports. These countries were followed by the United States, the Netherlands, Sweden and France, which together accounted for a further 30%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in France (with a CAGR of +8.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), the UK ($X) and Sweden ($X) were the largest laser suppliers to Denmark, with a combined 54% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, the United States, France and China, which together accounted for a further 30%.

Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
