In value terms, cigarettes containing tobacco exports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Greenland (X tons), Faroe Islands (X tons) and Iceland (X tons) were the main destinations of cigarettes containing tobacco exports from Denmark, together accounting for 93% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Iceland (with a CAGR of +93.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Greenland ($X), Faroe Islands ($X) and Iceland ($X) were the largest markets for cigarettes containing tobacco exported from Denmark worldwide, with a combined 97% share of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Iceland, with a CAGR of +100.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average cigarettes containing tobacco export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 15% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, cigarettes containing tobacco export price increased by +43.5% against 2014 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+9.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Denmark
For the ninth consecutive year, Denmark recorded decline in supplies from abroad of cigarettes containing tobacco, which decreased by -5.9% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The smallest decline of -0.5% was in 2016. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cigarettes containing tobacco imports declined notably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 15%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of cigarettes containing tobacco to Denmark, with a 42% share of total imports. Moreover, cigarettes containing tobacco imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Lithuania (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Hungary (X tons), with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Poland amounted to +13.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Lithuania (+22.2% per year) and Hungary (-9.7% per year).
In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cigarettes containing tobacco to Denmark, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Poland stood at +14.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Romania (+3.6% per year) and Hungary (-8.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average cigarettes containing tobacco import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -17.2% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 19% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+17.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
