The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 89%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Slovakia (X tons) was the main destination for wood charcoal exports from the Czech Republic, with a 73% share of total exports. Moreover, wood charcoal exports to Slovakia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), fourfold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Slovakia amounted to -15.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+1.1% per year) and Poland (+63.9% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for wood charcoal exported from the Czech Republic were Slovakia ($X), Germany ($X) and Austria ($X), with a combined 88% share of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Austria, with a CAGR of +122.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -11.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 31%. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 41%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Ukraine (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of wood charcoal imports to the Czech Republic, together comprising 67% of total imports. Bulgaria, Slovakia, Spain and Egypt lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Egypt (with a CAGR of +127.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
