Whey Market Size in the Czech Republic

For the third year in a row, the Czech whey market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2019. In general, consumption showed a moderate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 when the market value increased by X% year-to-year. Whey consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2019, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, whey production reached $X in 2019 estimated in export prices. In general, production continues to indicate moderate growth. Exports from the Czech Republic

In 2019, approx. X tonnes of whey were exported from the Czech Republic; waning by -X% against the year before. In general, exports showed a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, whey exports shrank to $X in 2019. Overall, exports saw a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2019, exports remained at a lower figure.

Germany (X tonnes) was the main destination for whey exports from the Czech Republic, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, whey exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Malaysia (X tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Bangladesh (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2019, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany totaled -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+X% per year) and Bangladesh (+X% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for whey exported from the Czech Republic were Malaysia ($X), Germany ($X) and Thailand ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Bangladesh, Slovakia, the Philippines, China, South Korea, Colombia, Denmark, Ghana, Bulgaria and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further X the main countries of destination, Denmark (+X% per year) recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2019, the average whey export price amounted to $X per tonne, rising by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a modest expansion from 2007 to 2019: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last twelve years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2019 figures, whey export price decreased by -X% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 an increase of X% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2019, export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was China ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Czech Republic

In 2019, supplies from abroad of whey decreased by -X% to X tonnes for the first time since 2016, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, whey imports dropped to $X in 2019. In general, imports recorded a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2019, the growth imports failed to regain the momentum.

Imports by Country

Hungary (X tonnes), Germany (X tonnes) and Austria (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of whey imports to the Czech Republic, with a combined X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Hungary, while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of whey to the Czech Republic, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Slovakia ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Hungary, with a X% share.

In 2019, the average whey import price amounted to $X per tonne, declining by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2014 to 2019, the growth in terms of the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2019, the country with the highest price was France ($X per tonne), while the price for Austria ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
