Snail Market Size in the Czech Republic

For the third consecutive year, the Czech snail market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -X% to $X in 2020. Overall, consumption recorded a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the market value increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from the Czech Republic

In 2020, exports of snails (except sea snails) from the Czech Republic contracted notably to X tonnes, with a decrease of -X% compared with the year before. Overall, exports recorded a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2009; however, from 2010 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, snail exports declined markedly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum at $X in 2009; however, from 2010 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

France (X tonnes) was the main destination for snail exports from the Czech Republic, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, snail exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Slovakia (X tonnes), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Italy (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to France stood at -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovakia (+X% per year) and Italy (+X% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for snail exported from the Czech Republic were France ($X), Italy ($X) and Slovakia ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Italy saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average snail export price amounted to $X per tonne, rising by X% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated notable growth from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, snail export price increased by +X% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average export prices reached the maximum in 2020 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Snail imports into the Czech Republic shrank sharply to X tonnes in 2020, reducing by -X% against 2019 figures. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, snail imports reduced notably to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Moreover, snail imports from Lithuania exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Greece (X tonnes), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Serbia (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Lithuania totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Greece (+X% per year) and Serbia (+X% per year).

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2012 an increase of X% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, import prices failed to regain the momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Serbia ($X per tonne), while the price for Lithuania ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Greece, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
