Shelled Hazelnut Market Size in the Czech Republic
In 2021, the Czech shelled hazelnut market increased by 12% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

Exports from the Czech Republic
After two years of growth, shipments abroad of shelled hazelnuts decreased by -38.9% to X tons in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 80% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then fell markedly in the following year.
In value terms, shelled hazelnut exports shrank sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons) was the main destination for shelled hazelnut exports from the Czech Republic, accounting for a 46% share of total exports. Moreover, shelled hazelnut exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Slovakia (X tons), with an 18% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany amounted to +31.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+8.5% per year) and Slovakia (-10.6% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for shelled hazelnut exported from the Czech Republic were Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and Slovakia ($X), together comprising 85% of total exports. These countries were followed by France and Georgia, which together accounted for a further 13%.
France, with a CAGR of +54.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average shelled hazelnut export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, shelled hazelnut export price increased by +30.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Georgia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Shelled Hazelnut Imports
Imports into the Czech Republic
After two years of growth, purchases abroad of shelled hazelnuts decreased by -21.5% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 31%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined markedly in the following year.
In value terms, shelled hazelnut imports dropped rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +32.7% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Georgia (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of shelled hazelnut imports to the Czech Republic, together accounting for 75% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Azerbaijan (with a CAGR of +86.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Azerbaijan ($X), Georgia ($X) and Turkey ($X) appeared to be the largest shelled hazelnut suppliers to the Czech Republic, with a combined 72% share of total imports.
Azerbaijan, with a CAGR of +83.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average shelled hazelnut import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, shelled hazelnut import price increased by +19.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 65%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices from the Netherlands ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Georgia ($X per ton) and Turkey ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
